July is going to be nuts. Savoring every single s July is going to be nuts.
Savoring every single snuggle until I board the plane to @wchoregon22! (Nine days!)
I’m headed back to Boston — with a microphone I’m headed back to Boston — with a microphone in hand!
I’m excited, honored, and downright psyched to be spending this weekend in Boston doing a whole lot of talking and cheering.
Join @imtinyrik and me on Saturday in Boston Common, where we’ll be co-hosting a series of conversations at the first-ever B.A.A. 10K Fest, with pros including @des_linden, @em_sisson_, @nell_rojas_running, and @edna.kiplagat. (This is all going down from 2–4 PM. Free for all, no RSVP required, in the prettiest part of Boston!)
Then on Sunday, I’ll be one of the start and finish line announcers at the @teambaa 10K, alongside co-announcer @mollyhuddle! (And what a lineup! @keiradamato and @lthweatt and @mariellehalll and @smevaughn, oh wow!)
Come for the fun, stay for the run!
Best job ever.
It wasn’t an easy school year in so many ways — for parents, for teachers, for the kids. (Raise your hand if your entire body tenses up just thinking about getting that 11 AM “Covid positive in class, we are closing for the next 14 days, please come pick up your child immediately” call.)
But my goodness did Annie thrive this year. We loved her teachers and her classmates so much, and while yeah, there were a whole bunch of unplanned closures and big changes and day-to-day challenges, the teachers stayed steady and smiling, and we are forever grateful for them. (How mushy is TOO mushy for end-of-the-year thank-you cards? Let’s just say I poured my heart out for Miss Wendy and Miss Natalia, who were truly our rocks from the very first day.)
Cheers to the teachers, and cheers to our sweet, silly, artsy, dance-loving, twirly-dress-wearing preschooler!
An excerpt from my @tedxboston talk, which you can An excerpt from my @tedxboston talk, which you can now watch on YouTube:
“One night, I went out with my boyfriend — yeah, the boyfriends don’t fare so well in this story — and his friends. We had a blast. At least, I thought we did.
But when we got home, my world shattered.
‘Going out with you is embarrassing,’ he told me. ‘You can’t ever just do small talk. You interrogate my friends, asking them about their hopes and dreams and childhoods.’
I had built a life and a career out of being curious. I loved living in New York City, where on any given hour on any given crosswalk, I could be surrounded by people with stories. I was dying to know those stories. ‘Why are you here, on this crosswork, at this exact moment? What brought you here?’ I craved answers, stories, journeys.
But now, it seemed, what I thought was one of my greatest strengths — that insatiable curiosity — was…embarrassing?
Needless to say, that relationship ended not long after.
The words stuck, though.
First I was too silly.
Now I was too curious.
My instincts, my core values…were too *something* for someone else.
Fast forward 11 years.
The Ali on the Run Show recently hit #53 on the Apple Podcast Sports charts. As someone with a lifelong fear of the ball, I never thought I’d see myself on a sports chart. But there I was — nestled at #53. One of just *three* women-hosted shows in the Top 100.
I’ve let my insatiable curiosity — the one where I ask about childhoods and dreams and goals — fuel me. I’ve turned what one person thought was my greatest flaw… into a career.”
The takeaway, I hope: Never stop being who you know you are and who you want to be because someone else thinks you’re too silly, too curious, or too much.
(The link is in my bio. I hope you like it.)
The plan: A quick and busy 48-hour trip to NYC fil The plan: A quick and busy 48-hour trip to NYC filled with in-person podcast recordings (fun!), an in-studio @onepeloton class (fun!), and the NYRR New York Mini 10K (fun!).
What I did instead: Stayed home, went for a long run finishing at Annie’s last dance class of the season, and then enjoyed a quick girls weekend getaway to Beverly, MA, with Annie and my mom.
We saw Annie’s cousins, had lots of dance parties, went out to dinner, had a hotel sleepover, went to the beach, went to a big playground, and did a lot of shopping.
Absolutely no regrets. ♥️
