Thanks Ali, that’s great of you to be so honest and self-aware. I used to love, love, love your show but I have to admit lately I stopped listening. It just seemed like you were interviewing the same kind of person over and over again … some A-type, hyper-successful young woman from an elite school, and perhaps her only flaw is an eating disorder. Even though I am a “skinny white woman” myself, I was struggling to relate. It all seemed like people who are qualifying for Olympics, winning major races or just winning at the upper echelons of corporate life. I felt like I don’t belong anymore, which made me a little sad. More racial diversity is a good place to start. I hope this will also lead to an improved diversity or thought, personalities and life experience on the podcast.
Thank you for your comment, Lucy. I agree with you — and I’m so sorry I lost you as a listener along the way. I was definitely super excited about the Olympic Marathon Trials, so I went all-in on sharing lots and lots of those stories in the build up and after the Trials. And you’re right, it was a very similar-looking group. I will absolutely keep your feedback in mind going forward, and hope you’ll find episodes that you relate with and that inspire you. (You do belong! And I will do my best to make sure you feel that!)
