Ali on the Run Show Episode 223: On the Job with Kelly McKnight, Orthopedic Surgery Resident

“I run on pure stress and adrenaline.”

Kelly McKnight is an orthopedic surgery resident — a real-life Callie Torres from Grey’s Anatomy! — in Sioux Falls, SD. On this episode, the second in the On the Job series, Kelly talks about what her job entails, what the schooling is like, how she survives grueling 80-hour weeks on her feet, and how running fits in. She also talks about why only six percent of orthopedic surgeons are women — and why she’s passionate about bringing that number way up.

  1. I just listened to this yesterday “on the run” (okay, on the slog (slow jog). Kelly-OTs totally teach people how to adapt and modify after surgery! Everything she said-how to put on a bra, shave your legs, make up/hair-OTs can show you how!

I’m the creator of the Ali on the Run blog and the host of the Ali on the Run Show podcast. I’m also a freelance writer and editor, a race announcer, a runner and marathoner, a mom, and a huge fan of Peanut M&Ms, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (way better than the first one!), and reliving my glory days as a competition dancer in the early 2000s. I’m really happy you’re here.
