We brought Ellie in to get spayed this morning.
I’M FINE.
I cried when they took her away from me and led her back into the procedure room, and then I did what I do best: walked across the street and ate a Nutella crepe. (I walked up to the counter and ordered “the usual,” and Brian looked at me like, “WTF, how often do you come here???”) I eat my feelings, and they taste like an artificially flavored hazelnut and chocolate spread.
I know she’ll be fine. She also has a little hernia that they’re fixing while she’s in there, and they’re going to do x-rays on her front legs since she still has a bit of a limp after last weekend’s dog park incident.

It’s been a week around here, man. Between her sad little limp (and loss of appetite, and vomiting, and general trauma), my seemingly endless battle with this stupid flu (“Maybe it’s just a 24-hour thing,” I stupidly told myself on Day 1), work being insane, and the whole “we’re moving on Tuesday” thing, I feel like I’m inside a tornado. (“In the eye of the hurricane there is quiet.” Different natural phenomenon, but name that tune!)
And when life gets crazy, what do we do?
We look at puppy pictures!

Here are a few of my favorite recent snaps of Ellie.
First, a series of Ellie snuggling and sleeping with Brian, her favorite napping buddy.

One thing we learned during Ellie’s puppy classes is that sometimes dogs need to be “scooped” when they are playing. This gives them time to have a little breather and calm down a bit. Whenever we scoop Ellie, she immediately looks hammered drunk. I don’t know why this happens.

Here are some photos of Ellie on the bed. She mostly sleeps in her crate now because she takes up too much space, but we bring her up to snuggle in the mornings. It’s my favorite time of day.

Did we get a doggy cam so we can see what Ellie is up to when we’re away? YEAH, WE DID, ACTUALLY. And it’s awesome.

And a few randoms…

Now BRB. Back to counting down the minutes until I can go pick up my little conehead.
Have a great weekend, everyone! Good luck to all the NYC Half Marathon runners. I’m planning to be out cheering around Mile 9 with the November Project cohort, so yell at me and I’ll cheer extra loud for you! BE GREAT, HAVE FUN, FINISH FAST.

The drunk photos are hilarious!
The underbite, oh my goodness. She could have anything with that face. And the paw on you. When Cocoa does that it melts.my.heart!! I never heard of the scooping for the park but that is what we do when Cocoa gets overtired at home. We ask her if she wants to get scooped, haha. Life with a puppy is THE BEST!!
Yes so happy that Fridays with Ellie are back!! How does Brian sleep like that?
Good luck with with move! Enjoy Jersey! I do!!
Hope she’s home now and recovering from her spay. Sleepy cuddly pups are the best. Duncan was literally using my pillow like a human today. I spooned him and then we had to go to the vet. He has what doc feels is a benign tumor. Needless to say I have been a nervous wreck thinking it was cancer. Ugh. Anyhoo try and stay calm through your tornado of stuff going on (I think I just said that for myself. Lol )
I keep sending my son pictures of Ellie (he’s a huge dog lover) because she’s so cute. Than you for giving me a random reason to text my kid — it’s hard for me to get his attention without dog photos.
Love this!
1. The pictures of Brian and Ellie remind me of the pictures that mom took of her toddler and the puppy. You could post one a day and make a book out of it!
2. Ellie might be getting hot in her crate… when my doggy gets warm, he always lays on the smooth surface and pushes his bed out of the way. Just a thought! She might just like her bed as a cuddle-buddy!
I’ve wondered that on days when it’s a bit warmer! But she does it with other stuff too, sometimes, like when she’s out in the living room, so I’m not sure. Now that we have the camera (DON’T JUDGE ME), we were able to see that she adjusts the bed as soon as she goes into the crate, which makes me think she likes it bunched up. But I’m mostly just guessing…all day every day!
feel better ELLIE! You are too cute to be sick/injured/out of commission!
Seriously, how DOES Brian sleep on the floor like that??
This post is full of cuteness and redeemed my craptastic morning.
He can sleep anywhere. Including on airplanes. I, on the other hand, cannot, and it infuriates me.
Cute pics!! Ellie is adorable haha. Hope you both get feeling better quick! Enjoy your weekend
First of all, I just LOVE Ellie! I know you hear it all the time, but it’s true.
Second, it is alarming how Brian can actually fall asleep on a hard wooden floor! Those are such cute pics, though.
Also, I think Ellie was possessed by the Joker in that pic with the creepy smile and also when she managed to turn white in her crate while you were away. LOL.
Have a great weekend, Ali 🙂
HE CAN SLEEP ANYWHERE. It drives me nuts, particularly on airplanes, because I cannot.
I have two doggie cams – one in the living room and one in the bedroom so I can see what my pup Coco Pop does when I’m not home. Its totally normal. 😉
I love Fridays with Ellie! so cute!
I hope her limp goes away along with your illness!
