Battle of Brooklyn Kind Of Recap

I’m in Fire Island and I’m drinking loads o’ wine, so rather than giving you a play-by-play of today’s JackRabbit Sports Battle of Brooklyn 10-mile race (I’ll do that tomorrow), tonight I’ll simply leave you with a few photos and my blah-for-me finish time (1:26:something).

The race was tough for me. I played the mental “I can’t do this” battle, I struggled on the Prospect Park hills and I have officially mastered the art of positive splitting.

Not ideal.

But also, Coach Cane ran the race — which is commemorative of the Revolutionary War — in full-on George Washington garb, musket and all.

My coach is the coolest.

So was it my best race?

Nope. Not even a little bit.

But was it fantastic seeing the other rabbits, a few familiar faces and two dazzling runners in “I Heart Sweat” shirts? You bet.

And now I’m off work for two days to enjoy the beach in Fire Island.

If you don’t hear from me, it’s because I’ve made a home for myself in the sand. Don’t be alarmed.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

  1. I love this! I’m thinking of signing up for the Disney Princess Half Marathon for this reason only:
I can race in a princess outfit. How cool!
(Also, Mickey and Minnie greet you at the finish line, while a fairy godmother dusts you in fairy dust at the finish line, where you get a tiara-shaped medal. Yes.)

Enjoy Fire Island! The days of summer are fleeting!

  2. I would love love love to run a race dressed in character! I am thinking for my Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving!

We all have less than stellar races- don’t let them define you and keep pushing towards your goal! You are awesome!!

  3. That. is. awesome. I want to run a race dressed up. But, not with a musket. I am not a baller like that.

I saw TWO “I Heart Sweat” shirts at the long training run yesterday. Just an fyi.

  4. I can’t believe Coach Cane ran in that outfit and carrying the musket!
It was really warm and humid today, so don’t feel bad about not having as fast of a time as you wanted.
    Enjoy Fire Island, relax….. 🙂
