Thankful Things Thursday: Rain-Free Edition

I woke up today and my first thought was, “Today is going to be a good day.” I don’t know why, I just have a good feeling about it.

Plus, it’s Thankful Things Thursday, so let’s just jump right into it. Here’s what’s awesome about today…

I’m thankful that I got to sleep before midnight. As you may recall, I haven’t been getting much sleep lately. But last night I powered down my laptop, turned off the TV and passed out for six glorious hours (still not enough, I know, but baby steps…).

I’m thankful that I beat the rain. The forecast has been saying it’s going to rain in NYC today — and judging by the dreariness out there, I’d say the prediction is right. But I woke up early enough to get a 4-miler in and walk to work before any precipitation hit.

Pre-run excitement — it wasn't raining yet!

I’m thankful the grass is getting greener. This one could be an awesome metaphor, don’t you think? But seriously, where there used to be snow, there’s grass growing. Spring is right around the corner.

I spy something green...

I’m thankful for puppies. I’m always thankful for dogs. I’m especially thankful that I get to walk by a Doggy Daycare every morning where there are tons of excited dogs playing. (And yes, I’m the creep who stands there and takes pictures of strangers’ dogs.)

PUPPIES!!!!!!!

I’m thankful to be going out with friends tonight. The plan is to go straight from work to yoga (time permitting, we’ll see if it happens) then out with the girls. Naturally that presents a challenge as to what to wear, since I won’t be going home before dinner. The best solution I came up with (remember, it’ll be raining later) was skinny jeans, a cute top and a blazer. I commute in boots…

Oh so comfortable

And then I put heels on when I get to the office. Though I’m not sold on the skinny jeans with heels look on me. Some girls rock it. I am undecided.

Trying to class it up...

The blazer keeps this outfit work appropriate, but I’ll be able to take it off at dinner. Because I’m crazy like that.

This top is old and I still love it.

Lastly, I am thankful for 90s pop music. Oh yes, you read correctly. This morning my iPod was playing on Shuffle, and some great stuff came on, including…

  • “The Sign” by Ace of Base
  • “Back For Good” by Take That
  • “No Limit” by 2Unlimited
  • “Jellyhead” by Crush
  • “Fantasy” by Mariah Carey
  • “Don’t Let Me Be The Last To Know” by my girl B.Spears
  • …and maybe a Hanson song. Or two.

Yes, I have cool songs in my rotation. Remember, this is a judgment free zone.

NOW YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO: Tell me what you’re thankful for today! Maybe a particular snack you plan to eat later, or a workout you’ve got planned. Perhaps you’re even thankful for Hanson or the Backstreet Boys, like I am. Whatever you’re pumped about, let me know. I support it.

  1. Loving the skinny jeans & high heels look. I wish I was allowed to wear them to work!
    I’m thankful for
*An open hour during the day to get some paperwork done (i’ve been behind on session notes & assessments all week!)
*Leaving work before 7 pm today!
*The delicious blueberries & oatmeal I ate for dinner tonight
*An unplanned evening with a friend

  2. I’m also thankful for a pre-rain run this morning! I was contemplating sleeping in and pushing it until afterwork, and now I’m so glad I chose to get it out of the way so I could come home after work, make a delicious dinner, and do laundry (much needed) instead.

  3. Today I am thankful for the run I snuck in during my lunch break – it helped me survive the day (It’s 8:30pm and I’m still at work). Just don’t tell the boss I was gone for over an hour, hehe.

    Love your 90’s playlist 🙂

  4. Just my opinion, but I think you are one of the girls who rock the skinny jeans + heels look.

And I’m thankful for friends you can discuss anything and everything with. And gimlets.

  5. OMG I love Jellyhead! I love that you posted that song! I definitely couldn’t wake up for my run this morning =( Studying for midterms made that a little bit less than easy today so it looks like I’m either running in the rain or on the treadmill tonight!

  6. oh man, i am DEFINITELY thankful for 90s pop music. Can I get some spice girls on in here?

I’m also thankful for my delicious leftovers from last night’s Mediterranean feast and the fact that my mom is coming to town today for 3 days of mother/daughter fun!

  7. I’m also thankful that I was able to get a trip to the gym and my commute in before it started raining! So key, as I am not usually a morning workout person even when the weather is perfect. And no judgments on the songs…”Jellyhead” is one of my all-time faves 🙂

  8. OMG….I seriously love your 90’s playlist there! I’m also thankful for 90’s music!!! Great job on the outfit too! I did something like that yesterday so that I could head to dinner right after work!

  9. I get so excited every time Jellyhead comes up in my shuffle. Definitely thankful for the 90s pop as well.
And also thankful that I made it to work before the downpour — and for my red rain boots, since days like this give me an excuse to wear them.
Love the strategic outfit planning — have a great day!

  10. You look sexy in your skinny jeans + heels! Love the top, where’s it from? I never know where to find nice shirts like that. I am thankful for working in a place with all the errands I need to run at lunchtime connected to my building underground so I don’t have to go out in the rain. Today, this includes the post office, eyebrow threading and Duane Reade.
