Happy Tuesday! In case you’re just catching up from the long weekend, here’s what you missed:
- I ran on Friday night — this was the day the temperature climbed to the high 60s. It was beautiful.
- I learned from my mistakes during a challenging 10-mile run on Saturday.
- I took a rest day on Sunday.
- On Monday, I redeemed myself with a fantastic 8-mile run through snowy Central Park.
- I took Louis Van Amstel’s “La Blast” class last night at Crunch. He’s one handsome man.
I woke up this morning feeling refreshed, relaxed and ready to start the short work week. My alarm was set for 5:45 and ABS and I both managed to get up and out of bed on time!
Of course, I crawled out of bed to see this on TV:

The kind weather guy let me know that it’s a full 50 degrees colder than it was last Friday. Thanks, man.
Winter isn’t my favorite season. But since it seems to be dragging on this year, I figure I may as well embrace it.
Here are 10 Things I Like About Winter:
1. Testing my running limits. I used to be a fair weather runner. This year, I’ve run in snow and sleet, in below-freezing temperatures and through ankle-deep snow. I’ve enjoyed pushing myself and seeing what my body is capable of. Running in the cold can be fun if you’re dressed properly, and running in the snow is beautiful.

2. Cute cold-weather accessories. This year I’ve loved wearing lots of fun hats and warm scarves.

3. Going skiing and tubing. Snow sports are the best. I grew up skiing and I still love it.
4. Warm drinks. Hot chocolate tastes so much better when it’s cold outside. Extra whipped cream, please!
5. Bright tights. I prefer bare legs to tights, but when I have to layer up, I like tights that add a pop of color to my outfit. Case in point: the hot pink ones I’m wearing today!

6. Sunrises. In the summer, you expect the sunrise to be spectacular. In the winter, it seems more special.

7. Lots of covers on the bed. I like sleeping in a cool room with tons of blankets.
8. Frozen yogurt. It tastes just as good, no matter the weather.

9. Sleeping in. During the summer, I force myself to wake up early on the weekends in order to get long runs in before it gets too hot. No need to do that during the winter! You don’t have to set a Saturday alarm and can run whenever you want.
10. The fact that spring is just around the corner!
YOUR TURN: What do you like about winter? There has to be something!

I LOVE winter. I love to ski. I really enjoy the cold weather, because although I am a naturally cold person, I HATE being “hot”. I also love that in the winter, I can curl up in my sheets and blankets when I go to bed and I do not have to worry about waking up in a hot sweat!
Nothing.
I love the caption of the 16 handles picture. I once wrote in a post: i love ice cream more than any man I ever met. We’ll have to go together sometime!
Winter is by FAR my least favorite season. However, here are a few of the things I like about winter:
1. Hot chocolate (this is the first year since winter 2006-2007 that I can drink it. I became lactose intolerant and FINALLY found a recipe!)
2. Cute scarves & dressy winter coats. LOVE THEM.
3. My space heater. It’s attached to me from Oct-March or April
4. The Christmas Season!
5. Moonlight reflecting off the snow at night
Way to be optimistic. . . I’ve been struggling with that and the weather lately. I do feel hard-core when I’m out there running though!
I can get a little cranky in the winter, but I do love cozy sweaters, warm drinks, and pretty snow. I haven’t embraced winter running quite yet…I’m not sure I ever will…but I’ve still challenged myself during marathon training and I’m getting through the season.
I love colored tights! And patterned tights! And textured tights! But right now I’m mainly over wearing them.
What a great way to look at winter. I think at this point in the season, it’s easy to be a grouch about it, too.
My favorite part is definitely not needing to set an alarm to get long runs in. Nothing better than being cozy in fleece blankets & comforters and running whenever I want. although knowing spring is around the corner is pretty nice too! 🙂
I wish we had a 16 candles where I’m from….your pictures of it look absolutely delicious!
I like cute winter accessories too! Hats, scarves, gloves and earmuffs. I also love snow. I don’t know why. I don’t care that it makes my commute harder. It’s just so pretty. I also sort of love that in this day and age, it can shut a whole city down. That always baffles me!
Florida winters are spectacular! I love that I’m not sweating the second I step out of the shower. The walk to my car doesn’t leave me gasping for breath from the 112% humidity. I can still go to the beach in Feburary (as I did on Saturday).
Incase you want to see some snowless weather, check out the vlog I posted yesterday!
I like that I can run from my office at lunch and get away with not showering because I don’t sweat in the cold. And now I’m ready for spring!
I like winter because it makes you appreciate the random 50* days thrown in the mix. Something you do not do in the summer. 🙂
