Redemption Run

On Saturday, I ran 10 rather frustrating, difficult miles.

Yesterday, I forced myself to take a rest day.

Today, I came back with a vengeance.

After a fabulous dinner at Tony’s Di Napoli last night, ABS and I came home, watched some “Mad Men” then got to sleep nice and early.

I was shocked when I woke up this morning (I slept until 8:30 am — amazing. Can every weekend be a long weekend?) to see that the city had been blanketed with lots of beautiful, fluffy snow.

I did some stretching and some ab things, ate some breakfast and by then the snow had stopped falling.

Run time!

According to the weather report, it was 28 degrees when I left the apartment. It felt much warmer though. Here’s my “It just snowed so I’m wearing lots of clothing” layering process:

Base layer: Nike running tights and Lululemon long-sleeved "Cabin" shirt
Next layer: GapBodyFit jacket
Top layer: Old-school Gap puffy vest

I was never cold during the run and probably could have done without the vest.

The run itself was awesome. The sidewalks and the running road in Central Park were perfectly clear (good work, NYC cleanup crew!), the wind was subtle (as opposed to Saturday’s ridiculous winds) and my legs felt warm and fast.

I guess rest days can be helpful, after all.

As always, I took tons of photos while I was out. Even though I’ve seen this city covered in snow for months now, I’m not sick of it.

Hopefully you’re not sick of it either. Here are the photos I took today…

My pretty street
My street, again
The entrance to Central Park at 79th & 5th
I stuck to the lower park loops to stay safe
So happy...and kind of looking like a linebacker
Snow here today, hopefully melted by tomorrow...
I ran up and down "The Mall" a bunch of times because I felt like I was in a movie...or a snow globe
Tourists love this part of the park

Off the beaten path
Exiting the park near 79th Street on the East Side

8 miles = DONE

Time to tackle the day!

Coming up:

  • Grocery shopping
  • Laundry
  • Tony’s leftovers for lunch
  • Hitting up Crunch later for a very special class. Check back tonight for a full review.

TELL ME: Most people have today off (ABS and me included)! Do you have the day off? How are you spending it?

  1. I had the day off, and used that as an excuse to go visit my baby brother, sister-in-law and their pup in Seattle. And now, thanks to you, I can’t get Redemption Song out of my head.

  2. Not only did we have the day off, but it was 75 and sunny down here in NC; feel free to move down whenever 🙂 We went for a bike ride and ran some errands, nice relaxing day. Love your pics of the snow though, so beautiful!

  3. I did NOT have the day off, and around 11 am it started raining, and then it started to sleet, and then sleet/snow mix. My 20 minute drive home took 40 minutes, and there was no walk or run tonight. And I couldn’t go to yoga. So, it’s more of a forced rest day for me…

  4. What a beautiful day in the park! I’m glad you felt good and enjoyed your run and have the rest of the day to play. I’m very lucky because it’s school vacation week, so I have the whole week off. I love sleeping a little later, working out, and then having fun for the rest of the day.

  5. Go girl! You really are my hero running in the snow like that. I need to get better at braving the weather…it’s just snow! 🙂 I have the whole week off–it’s my grad school february break. I’m so happy but will spend most of the week getting caught up on school work.

  6. So beautiful! Glad you got a good run in today. I had 8 yesterday and am feeling it today so taking a rest day but wish I could get out there in the snow too! LOVE the pic of you smiling in the park. Beautiful!

  7. I never get sick of the pictures of the snow. All your pictures really make me want to visit NYC, and I’ve never, ever, ever wanted to before. The big city scares me to pieces, all those people, OMG! Your pictures make it seem so lovely. The picture of your street looks like it’s right out of book, or a movie or something. I’ve never seen anything like it. I’ve always lived in rural areas of Florida. No big cities, and certainly nothing like NYC! I wonder how much convincing it would take to get my Hubs there.

I’m going to do a vlog later this afternoon of our weather in Florida 🙂 A blog I read did a vlog yesterday of the snow they had in MN, so I thought I would do one of FL.
